The Nineteenth Century

When the neoclassical style of dress and simpler hairstyles came into fashion at the end of the eighteenth century, earrings became lighter and simpler. Jewelry of cut steel, seed pearls, Berlin iron, and strongly colored materials such as coral and jet, harmonized well with neoclassical fashions, and classically inspired cameos and intaglios were set in all kinds of jewelry. Heavy girandoles gave way to pendant earrings composed of flat, geometric elements connected by light chains. "Top-and-drop" earrings, composed of a small top element attached to the ear wire, from which a larger, often teardrop-shaped element is suspended, also came to the fore around 1800, and remained the most popular earring style throughout the nineteenth century. Matched sets of jewelry, known as parures, assumed new importance in the nineteenth century, and they were available even to women of modest means. These sets usually included at least a matching necklace or brooch and large earrings, but could also include bracelets, buckles, and a tiara or tiara-comb.
In the 1810s and 1820s, the trend toward lighter and more delicate jewelry continued, and settings of gold filigree or elaborate wirework (known as cannetille) were very popular. In the 1820s, a romantic interest in the past also inspired jewelry designers to revive historical styles from the ancient world to the eighteenth century, and a modified version of the girandole earring returned, along with elaborate gothic tracery and rococo-revival scroll-work. As hairstyles became more elaborate in the 1830s, earrings became more prominent, with small tops and long drops reaching nearly to the shoulders. In spite of their size, these earrings were fairly light in weight, owing to lightweight settings of gold cannetille or of repoussé (embossed relief raised from behind with a hammer), which had largely replaced cannetille by the 1840s. Earrings with long, torpedo-shaped drops of carved gemstones with applied gold filigree were also popular, many with detachable drops to allow the tops to be worn alone.
In the late 1840s and through the 1850s, a new hair-style, with hair parted in the middle and gathered to the back of the head in loops that covered the ears, caused a virtual disappearance of earrings. Around 1860, once again owing to a return to upswept hairstyles, long pendant earrings made a comeback, and through the 1860s and 1870s they were produced in an astonishing variety of styles. One major theme was historical revival, with Egyptian and Classical styles particularly popular. Some revival earrings, such as those produced by the Castellani family in Rome, were fairly faithful reproductions of recent archaeological discoveries; others were fanciful pastiches of classical earring forms, architectural elements, and other motifs such as amphorae. Earrings with carved classical reliefs of coral or lava, or Roman glass micro-mosaics, were very fashionable, and were often brought back as souvenirs by travelers to Italy. Other popular styles were naturalistic renditions of leaves, flowers, insects, and birds' nests in gold, enamel, and semiprecious stones; enameled renaissance-revival styles; and, for more precious gems, floral sprays and cascades. A new style in the 1870s was the fringe or tassel earring, with a graduated fringe of pointed drops suspended from a large oval pendant.
In the last two decades of the nineteenth century, large pendant earrings went out of fashion, in part because they were incompatible with the newly fashionable high dress and blouse collars, and with the elaborate "dog collar" necklaces worn for evening, which almost completely covered the neck. Small single-stone and cluster earrings, either firmly mounted to the ear wire or mounted as pendants to move and catch the light, were the most commonly worn style through the early twentieth century. The most fashionable earrings of all were diamond solitaires, which became more available after the opening of the South African diamond fields in the late 1860s. New cutting machines and open-claw settings, both of which increased the amount of light reflected by diamonds and made solitaire earrings more appealing, were developed in the 1870s. To prevent valuable diamond earrings from being lost, catches were added to secure the bottoms of the ear wires. Another innovation, first patented in 1878, was the earring cover, a small hinged sphere of gold, sometimes finished in black enamel, which could be snapped over a diamond earring to protect it from loss or theft. By the end of the century diamond ear studs (also called screws), with a threaded post passing through the ear, and held securely in back by a nut screwed onto the post, were also popular.

Kendall Jenner Hilariously Recrates Kylie's Lip Tricks And Smears Lipstick All Over Her Teeth

Kendall Jenner hilariously recreated her younger sister’s lip tricks for creating huge lips. Recently, Kylie Jenner shared her newest lip kit and demonstrated how she applies lip liner above her natural lip line in order to create a fuller pout. While it is evident that Kylie Jenner has undergone collagen injections, she also uses makeup above her lip line to try and make her lips look fuller. She isn’t the only sibling who does this as Khloe Kardashian does it in photos as well. Kendall’s parody of Kylie doing her lips was not only hilarious, but it went viral as well. Kendall Jenner Hilariously Recrates Kylie's Lip Tricks And Smears Lipstick All Over Her Teeth.
Kendall was funny as she continued with her parody, “Oh my God, it feels amazing on my skin. It feels so f@cking good.”
E! Entertainment shared the video that is teasing the last show of this season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The episode looks like it will be huge as Kendall dons a wig and actually makes herself look just like her sister Kylie. The only difference is that Kendall Jenner is 5’10” tall and is noticeably taller than her younger sister as Kylie Jenner is 5’6″. Kim Kardashian is 5’3″ and Kourtney Kardashian stands 5’1″.
You may see the video of Kendall Jenner making a parody of Kylie Jenner in the video player below.
Sibling rivalry is apparent in every household but this may be the most blatant case of sibling rivalry exhibited between Kylie and Kendall Jenner yet! It’s unclear whether Kylie will retaliate and do something to get back at Kendall and it’s unclear exactly why Kendall wanted to make fun of her sister like this.
While the response to the public video has been to laugh and view it as humorous, there are some who have said they think Kendall went too far and was a little harsh on her sister. After all, Kendall is a supermodel and though Kylie is a billionaire for her beauty business, only Kendall is the one who is walking runways with the title supermodel.
What do you think? Did Kendall go too far in parodying Kylie Jenner or is it all in just good fun?

Electronic Arts Bringing Back A Familiar Voice For Command & Conquer: Remastered

Those who grew up playing Command & Conquer likely have lines like “new construction options” and “unit lost” permanently burned into their brains. The voice behind EVA, or Electronic Video Agent (nobody calls it that, ever), is voice actress Kia Huntzinger, who voiced the role in three games in the series and did some additional voices in a 1997 game adaptation of Blade RunnerElectronic Arts Bringing Back A Familiar Voice For Command & Conquer: Remastered.
At some point in the 25 years since the original Command & Conquer was developed, the tapes of the recording were lost, but what sounds like a curse is really more of a blessing for fans of the franchise. Without the tapes to re-use, EA had to go straight to the source for Command & Conquer: Remastered.
Huntzinger went back into the studio to re-record her iconic EVA lines for the upcoming remaster and you can hear the barely-noticeable differences in the video above. Judging by the sound of her voice, the woman hasn’t aged a day since telling her first gamer that more silos were needed.
According to producer Jim Vessella, Huntzinger didn’t even need to audition for the role. She simply happened to work at Westwood Studios at the time and audio director Paul Mudra liked the way she sounded in voicemails and over the intercom, so they offered her the job and she was quick to accept.
The remaster is being developed by Petroglyph Studio, which was actually formed by former employees of Westwood Studios, so it’s hard to imagine the game being in more fitting hands. If anyone wants the game to be the best it could possibly be, it’s the original developers.
Command & Conquer: Red Alert will also be included in the remastered collection. Huntzinger’s version of EVA didn’t feature in Red Alert, with the character instead being voiced by then-Virgin Interactive President Martin Alper. Sadly, Alper passed away in 2015, so the developers will honor his legacy by using his original voice recordings from 1996.
Electronic Arts calls Command & Conquer and Red Alert “two of the most genre-defining Real-Time Strategy games in history” and anyone would have a difficult time arguing otherwise. It’s exciting that the games that started it all are coming back and it’s not just the graphics that are being updated. Due to popular demand, Frank Klepacki is returning to remaster his legendary soundtrack from the 1990s.
Command & Conquer: Remastered doesn’t currently have a release date, but whenever EA plans to release it, it’s definitely not soon enough.

The teaser consisted of nothing greater than a picture of the interlocked palms of two folks set to the dingy grey/inexperienced/black coloration palette that’s synonymous with Outlast imagery The Outlast Trials Will Be An Anxiety-Ridden, Panic-Inducing Cooperative Experience.
The palms aren’t interlocked in an enjoyable, romantic Sunday stroll type of approach. Somebody is clearing holding on for pricey life, which appears applicable for the sequence. The tagline, coupled with the put up referring to the gamers as “take a look at topics,” appears to suggest that the game will discover the early checks of Mission MK Extremely.
Mission MK Extremely was, in actual life, a CIA thought management program that passed off from the early 1950s till the early 1970s, whereby the agency experimented on take a look at topics with psychoactive medication, electroshocks, hypnosis, and extra. The undertaking was controversial for a large number of causes, certainly one of which was using unwitting take a look at topics. Without spoiling any greater than I have already got, Mission MK Extremely and its crimes in opposition to humanity play a task within the first Outlast game.
All three topics on the teaser poster (not counting the off-screen topic represented by a reaching hand) are sporting goggles of some kind, which can allude to the game having some type of VR performance. Apparently, the group at Crimson Barrels thought the identical so that they have been fast to touch upon their very own put up with an easy “the game shouldn’t be VR.”
The cooperative side of The Outlast Trials is optionally available. The game could be performed solo as effectively or with any variety of gamers as much as 4. Contemplating that the Outlast sequence options hands-down a few of the scariest horror games ever made, enjoying with a buddy, higher but a gaggle of buddies sounds prefers it is perhaps the best way to go. Then once more, nervousness could be infectious, and that is perhaps precisely what Crimson Barrel is relying on.

The 15 Best Diet Tips to Lose Weight and Improve Health

Let’s face it — there’s an overwhelming amount of information on the Internet about how to quickly shed pounds and get in shape.
If you're looking for the best tips on how to lose weight and keep it off, this seemingly endless amount of advice can be overwhelming and confusing.
From the diets promoting raw foods to meal plans that revolve around shakes and prepackaged foods, a new fad diet seems to pop up every day.
The problem is, although very restrictive diets and elimination meal plans will most likely result in short-term weight loss, most people can’t maintain them and end up throwing in the towel within a few weeks.
Although losing 10 pounds (4.5 kg) in a week by following a fad diet may seem tempting, the reality is that this type of weight loss is often unhealthy and unsustainable.
The real key to safe and successful weight loss is to adopt a healthy lifestyle that suits your individual needs and that you can maintain for life.
The following tips are healthy, realistic ways to get you back on track and headed towards your weight and fitness goals.
Here are 15 of the best dieting tips to improve your health and help you lose weight.

1. Fill up on Fiber

Hands Holding Salad With AvocadoShare on Pinterest
Fiber is found in healthy foods including vegetables, fruits, beans, and whole grains.
Some studies have shown that simply eating more fiber-rich foods may help you lose weight and keep it off.
Increasing your intake is as easy as adding beans to your salad, eating oats for breakfast or snacking on fiber-rich nuts and seeds.

2. Ditch Added Sugar

Added sugar, especially from sugary drinks, is a major reason for unhealthy weight gain and health problems like diabetes and heart disease.
Plus, foods like candy, soda and baked goods that contain lots of added sugars tend to be very low in the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy.
Cutting out foods high in added sugars is a great way to lose excess weight.
It’s important to note that even foods promoted as “healthy” or “organic” can be very high in sugar. Therefore, reading nutrition labels is a must.
3. Make Room for Healthy Fat

While fat is often the first thing that gets cut when you’re trying to slim down, healthy fats can actually help you reach your weight loss goals.
In fact, following a high-fat diet that’s rich in foods like olive oil, avocados and nuts have been shown to maximize weight loss in several studies.
What're more, fats help you stay fuller for longer, decreasing cravings and helping you stay on track.

4. Minimize Distractions

While consuming meals in front of your TV or computer may not seem like diet sabotage, eating while distracted may cause you to consume more calories and gain weight.
Eating at the dinner table, away from potential distractions, is not only a good way to keep your weight down — but it also allows you time to reconnect with loved ones.
Smartphones are another device you should set aside while you’re eating. Scrolling through emails or your Instagram or Facebook feed is just as distracting as a TV or computer.

5. Walk Your Way to Health

Many people believe they must adopt a rigorous exercise routine to jumpstart weight loss.
While different types of activity are important when you’re attempting to get in shape, walking is an excellent and easy way to burn calories.
In fact, just 30 minutes of walking per day has been shown to aid in weight loss.
Plus, it’s an enjoyable activity that you can do both indoors and outside at any time of day.

6. Bring out Your Inner Chef

Cooking more meals at home has been shown to promote weight loss and healthy eating.
Although eating meals at restaurants is enjoyable and can fit into a healthy diet plan, focusing on cooking more meals at home is a great way to keep your weight in check.
What’s more, preparing meals at home allows you to experiment with new, healthy ingredients while saving you money at the same time.

Including protein-rich foods like eggs in your breakfast has been shown to benefit weight loss.
Simply swapping your daily bowl of cereal for a protein-packed scramble made with eggs and sauteed veggies can help you shed pounds.
Increasing protein intake in the morning may also help you avoid unhealthy snacking and improve appetite control throughout the day.

While most people know they should avoid sodas and milkshakes, many people don’t realize that even drinks advertised to boost athletic performance or improve health can be loaded with unwanted ingredients.
Sports drinks, coffee beverages, and flavored waters tend to be very high in calories, artificial colorings and added sugar.
Even juice, which is often promoted as a healthy beverage, can lead to weight gain if you consume too much.
Focus on hydrating with water to minimize the number of calories you drink throughout the day.

Creating a shopping list and sticking to it is a great way to avoid buying unhealthy foods impulsively.
Plus, making a shopping list has been shown to lead to healthier eating and promote weight loss.
Another way to limit unhealthy purchases at the grocery store is to have a healthy meal or snack before you go shopping.
Studies have shown that hungry shoppers tend to reach for higher-calorie, unhealthy foods.

Drinking enough water throughout the day is good for overall health and can even help you maintain a healthy weight.
One study of over 9,500 people found that those who were not adequately hydrated had higher body mass indexes (BMIs) and were more likely to be obese than those who were properly hydrated.
What’s more, people who drink water before meals have been shown to eat fewer calories.

Rushing through meals or eating on the go may lead you to consume too much, too quickly.
Instead, be mindful of your food, focusing on how each bite tastes. It may lead you to be more aware of when you are full, decreasing your chances of overeating.
Focusing on eating slowly and enjoying your meal, even if you have limited time, is a great way to reduce overeating.

Refined carbs include sugars and grains that have had their fiber and other nutrients removed. Examples include white flour, pasta, and bread.
These types of foods are low in fiber, are digested quickly and only keep you full for a short period of time.
Instead, choose sources of complex carbohydrates like oats, ancient grains like quinoa and barley, or veggies like carrots and potatoes.
They’ll help keep you fuller for longer and contain many more nutrients than refined sources of carbohydrates.

Although aerobic exercise like brisk walking, running and biking is excellent for weight loss, many people tend to focus solely on cardio and don’t add strength training to their routines.
Adding weight lifting to your gym routine can help you build more muscle and tone your entire body.
What’s more, studies have shown that weight lifting gives your metabolism a small boost, helping you burn more calories throughout the day, even when you are at rest.

Fitting into jeans from high school or looking better in a swimsuit are popular reasons why people want to lose weight.
However, it’s much more meaningful to truly understand why you want to lose weight and the ways that weight loss may positively affect your life. Having these goals in mind may help you stick to your plan.
Being able to play tag with your children or having the stamina to dance all night at a loved one’s wedding are examples of goals that can keep you committed to a positive change.

Fad diets are promoted for their ability to help people lose weight fast.
However, these diets tend to be very restrictive and not easy to maintain. This leads to yo-yo dieting, where people lose pounds, only to gain them back.
While this cycle is common in those trying to shape up quickly, yo-yo dieting has been linked to a greater increase in body weight over time.
Additionally, studies have shown that yo-yo dieting can increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and metabolic syndrome.
These diets may be tempting, but finding a sustainable, healthy eating plan that nourishes your body instead of depriving it is a much better choice.

How to spot Instagram followers

It’s Cheat Week at Mashable. Join us as we take a look at how liars, scammers, grifters, and everyday people take advantage of life's little loopholes in order to get ahead.
Ever wonder how someone got so many Instagram followers? We have great news for your ego: Some of those Buy Instagram Followers
It's likely that, even if you've never bought followers, you've still been followed by a few bots. This is largely unavoidable — and many bots are harmless — but you should still report them to Instagram. The more volatile bots might try to phish you by sending spam or harmful links via DM, and it's not worth the risk of keeping them around.
Instagram cracked down on third-party apps that boost your account using fake followers and likes late last year, promising that there would be repercussions for users who continued to buy bots. (It's unclear what, exactly, those repercussions were.) But that didn't mark the end of fake followers: In fact, according to a survey that made the rounds earlier this week, celebrity accounts like Ellen DeGeneres, BTS, and Ariana Grande have fake follower counts between 46 and 49 percent. According to CNBC, fake followers on influencer accounts will cost brands a total of $1.3 billion this year alone.

How to spot a fake account

To spot a fake account, watch for a few telltale signs. For instance, if you notice a user liking a random assortment of your photos or leaving random, generic comments ("great post!") in rapid succession, there's a good chance it's affiliated with a third-party booster and is trying to tempt you into following it back.  At the very least, it's someone trying to rapidly inflate their follower count — probably not a person you want to follow anyway.
It's also helpful to look at the profile itself. If the user is following thousands of people but doesn't have many followers or posts themselves, or if their account appears to have been inactive for a long time, feel free to be suspicious. Of course, there are sneakier bots who do post a lot of content in an attempt to appear real. If you're not sure, pop a photo or two into a reverse Google image search and see if it's been lifted from another user — or another website entirely.
And we've all seen those super obvious fake accounts. There's the bot that posts a bunch of stolen photos of different women as if you will not notice they're not the same person. Then there's the fake discount account, which promises low prices on luxury items (frequently Ray-Bans) in an attempt to get you to click on a suspicious link.
Let us not forget the most obvious culprit of all: the account with nothing on it. No picture, no posts, no followers. Their handle is "Chloe8438488382" or some garbage like that. Goodbye, bot. You did not even put forth an effort.
Finally, it must be said: Just because someone meets one of these criteria does not automatically make them a bot. They could simply be really bad at Instagram.
